Accompanist/Pianist

St. Matthew's UMC is looking to hire a Accompanist/Pianist

Title: Church Musician/Accompanist

Purpose: To provide appropriate music and accompaniment for services of worship

Accountability: This position is accountable to the pastor and Director of Music Ministries.

Responsibilities:

Choose and practice in advance appropriate selections, including a prelude, offertory, posted and when needed, hymns, praise songs, choruses, and liturgy for worship and other special events plus accompaniment for the choir and/or other special music.

Consult with and meet regularly with the Director of Music Ministries regarding music for weekly worship services and other special services in the church calendar (e.g. Good Friday and Christmas Eve)

Accompany congregational singing during worship services and other special events, including hymn sings and special services during Christmas and Holy Week.

Facilitate congregational singing and worship through excellent, spirited performance of hymns, praise songs, choruses, and liturgy.

Attend weekday and Sunday choir rehearsals and play the organ, piano, keyboard as required for the purpose of accompanying the choir and praise band.

Arrive at scheduled events at least 10 minutes early to coordinate possible last minute changes and to review plans with the pastor, music director, worship leader, sound technician any special musicians and others involved in special music.

Notify music director in advance of any absence.

Be available for music for weddings and funerals with the first right of refusal.

Minimum Qualifications:

- Degree in music and/or 3-5 years experience in performing piano/keyboard/organ music in a weekly setting.

- Demonstrate skill in sight-reading, hymn/music performance and choir accompaniment.

- Experience a proven competence in working with a variety of age groups and types of music.

- Demonstrate and maintain good interpersonal skill as part of a team.

Desirable Qualifications:

- Music Degree

- 6-10 years experience in preparing and performing piano/keyboard/organ music for church worship services to include other instruments as appropriate.

Compensation: Compensation range of $12K to $15K per year depending on qualifications and experience. Compensation includes paid leave for 3 events (practice/worship services) per calendar year, non-cumulative, for any reason, including illness and vacation. Any additional absences result in prorated decreases in monthly salary.

Requirements for Attendance:

Will attend all practices and worship services throughout the year.
